Alan Boyd Fields, Jr., 70. of Palatka, died suddenly Friday, Dec. 21, 2001, at his home of natural causes.
He was born Nov. 13, 1931, in Miami, and lived in Palatka for the past 30 years, coming from Pensacola. He was of the Catholic denomination and was a U.S. Marine veteran of the Korean War. He was president of Dowda and Fields, chartered in Palatka, and had been with the law firm for 30 years. He was a member of the Putnam County Bar Association. He received an Honorary M.A. degree in 1980 from St. Leo College, a Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Florida in 1966, and a B.S. in journalism from UF in 1957. He was able to practice in several courts and was a member of numerous legal associations and civic organizations.
He was preceded in death by his parents, A. B. and Celeste Philbin Fields, and by a sister, Kathryn Price.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Judith Preston Fields of Palatka; four sons, Preston J. Fields and wife, Olga, of Palm Beach Gardens, Boyd Patrick Fields of Santee, S.C., Robert McHenry Fields and wife, Amy, of St. Augustine, and Richard Alan Fields and wife, Holly, of Jacksonville; sister, Patricia Ullspurger of Baltimore and six grandchildren.
Funeral mass will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 26, at St. Monica Catholic Church with Father Joseph Finlay officiating. Burial will follow in Palatka Memorial Gardens with the U.S. Marines conducting military honors. The Putnam County Bar Association will serve as honorary pallbearers. Friends may call from 8:30-9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Johnson-Overturf Funeral Home in Palatka. (Palatka Daily News Obituary dtd 24 Dec 2001.)
