Joan A. Bateson was born on September 12, 1928, in Marshaltown, Iowa, the daughter of Donald M. and Alma (Hetland) Bateson. Her siblings were Geraldine Moore and one brother and one sister, both deceased.
Joan graduated from Marshalltown High School, in the Class of 1946 and from Marshalltown Community College in 1948. She rearned her Bachelor of Arts in Education from the University of Iowa in Iowa City in 1950.
Joan A. Batson married Dwayne Allen in 1955. The had two children,
Debra Maddox and Tim Allen.
She taught school in Lanyon, Iowa. Then she worked for Marshalltown Radio Station KFJB for a few years. Finally, she went back to teaching: at St. Mary's High School, and Woodbury and Glick Elementary Schools, all in Marshalltown. She retired in 1968.
Joan A. Allen passed away on November 21, 1993, at Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center in Marshalltown, Iowa. Funeral Services were held at Pursel-Davis Funeral Home in Marshalltown, conducted by Rev. Don Carlson of Vineyard Christian Fellowship Church.
