Dwayne Romp, age 55, passed away suddenly in his sleep on Monday, April 11, 2016 while traveling for work.

Dwayne was born to Franklin and June (Kostuk) in Windsor Ontario, Canada on March 15, 1961. He also has a brother Jeff and sister Kelly. The family came to the US in the 1960s, settling in Garden City, where Franklin was a very successful businessman. Dwayne graduated from Garden City West High School in 1979.

He married his childhood sweetheart, the beautiful Robbin Shay, in Plymouth, Michigan on March 24, 1979. Their marriage was blessed with two sons, Steven and Nicholas.

Dwayne was never a "city person." After several years in White Lake, he and Robbin moved to a large parcel of land north of Gladwin in 2000. They built a beautiful log cabin on a pond in the woods and he had his large barn for all stages of woodworking, from converting logs into planks all the way through carving details, staining, and finishing. He created beautiful pieces of furniture, decor, and even fireplace mantles. All the while, Robbin would be the artist who carved intricate scenes and painted or stained the small pieces into complete scenes.

The family hunted and fished together. He never appreciated anyone in the family not carrying their own weight, either. Robbin would gut and drag her own deer to the barn. The boys learned quickly to bait their own hooks and sight their scopes.

During his time in Gladwin, he also created a strong relationship with the Paradice Hunt Club. In addition to appreciating the beautiful facility, he did quite a bit of work for them and obtained quite a few resources for his woodworking business.

In recent years, he and Robbin bought a new home up near the county line, just a few miles outside of West Branch. The house is beautifully decorated with his own furniture creations, Robbin's wooden-hand stained cornice boards over the windows, and mounts of everything from a coyote and many different kinds of deer to a mountain goat.

He joined a company that builds large kilns for drying wood. He and his crew traveled the western hemisphere building kilns. If he got a little fishing in on the weekends while gone, all the better. It was on such a trip that his heart suddenly gave out. He was found in the morning by a coworker in his hotel room near Ogawa, NY.

In addition to Robbin, he is survived by his sons and daughters-n-law Steven & Amanda Romp of Southgate and Nicholas & Heather Romp of Gladwin; beloved grandchildren Logan & Cecelia; brother and sister-in-law Jeffrey & Yvonne Romp of Shaftsburg; and sister Kelly Romp of Westland. He was predeceased by his parents.

His body was returned to Michigan. He has been cremated.
