A faithful and loving James John Cunningham, 54, was tragically struck by a train Friday afternoon during a typical walk through his childhood wilderness. Born to Uke and Caroline Cunningham, the former NHL Hockey Player is one of nine children who grew up in the Cardigan Junction area of Shoreview. Cunningham, an avid fisherman, was the proud father of two girls, and grandfather to three grandsons and a granddaughter. He leaves behind his parents Eugene and Caroline Cunningham, his children: Heidi (Drew) Schauer, Amber Cunningham, siblings: Mike (Judy) Cunningham, Karin (Henry) Harder, Mark (Jane) Cunningham, Colleen (Jim) DeCorsey, Brian (Beth) Cunningham, Debra (Al) Bergman, Donny (Krissy) Cunningham, Danny (Daina) Cunningham, grandchildren: Cade and Jace Cleys, Destiny Schauer, Tristan Schauer, and many family members, friends, and a legacy of a sincere selfless man whose humor, smile and larger than life presence was only outshined by his compassion and enormous heart. A celebration of his incredible spirit and unbelievable life will begin with a visitation 4–8 pm Tuesday, May 3, with formal prayer service at 6:30 pm at HOLCOMB-HENRY-BOOM-PURCELL, 515 Hwy 96 W at Mackubin,Shoreview (651-482-7606). Mass of Christian Burial 10 am Wednesday, May 4, visitation form 9-10AM at CHURCH OF ST. ODILIA, 3495 N. Victoria Ave, Shoreview. In lieu of flowers a family memorial for Jim’s daughters and grandchildren is preferred
