The Rev. Dr. Louis Robert Frere III died August 7, 2012 from Alzheimer's. He is preceded in death by his first wife Mary Ardene Frantz Frere and son Renn Todd Frere. Bob was born February 16, 1929 in Mt. Vernon, Ohio, and attended Ashland College in Ohio. After serving in the Navy, he taught high school and owned music businesses in the Rio Grande Valley. Bob became a radio and TV host and weatherman. Called to ministry, he attended Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary, and had early pastorates in Huntsville and Seabrook, where he was chaplain to several astronauts. In 1968 his talents lead him to administrative positions, first in Houston, then Louisville KY, and finally to San Antonio as Executive Presbyter of Mission Presbytery, guiding churches and pastors in south central Texas. Bob was known for his wisdom and compassion, insightfulness and love, and faithful dedication serving God and the people of the church. Bob is survived by his wife Carol Ayres Lawrence Frere; his children Suzette Frere Wright, John Lawrence and his wife Jennifer, Lisa Lawrence and her husband Mark Lundy, and daughter-in-law Lori Frere Jobmann and her husband Karl; and his grandchildren Lauren Wright, Ethan Frere Jobmann, Holden Frere Jobmann, Molly Gardner, and Helen Lundy.
Witness to the life and ministry of Bob Frere will be held on Sunday, Sept.2 during the 10:50 a.m. worship service at Madison Square Presbyterian Church, 319 Camden St., San Antonio with reception to follow from 12:30-2:00. Memorials may be made to Mission Presbytery (memo: John Knox Memorial Garden), 7201 Broadway, Ste.303, San Antonio 78209.
