John William Bogush was born on February 9, 1926, in the Castle Shannon suburb in the South Hills of Pittsburgh, the son of Bronislav and Antonia Petrekonis Bogush.

John graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a degree in Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering. He enlisted in the United States Army Air Forces and served in World War II, then in the Air Force Reserves and served in the Korean War. His final rank was a Master Sergeant.

John met Grace Leona Steigerwald at a dance at the Linden Grove at the corner of Library Rd. (Route 88) and Grove Road in Pittsburgh's South Hills suburb of Castle Shannon. They were married on June 17, 1950, at a Catholic church in Pittsburgh. In the 1950s and 1960s, they lived on Rossmore Avenue in the Brookline neighborhood of the South Hills of Pittsburgh. In the 1960s, they moved to a home in the Upper St. Clair suburb in the South Hills of Pittsburgh.

John was an Engineer/Manager/Licensed Professional Engineer over the years for U.S. Steel, Consolidated Coal, McGraw-Edison, and the U.S. Bureau of Mines in Bruceton, Pennsylvania.

In addition, John was an entrepreneur, founding Hiland Company, a metal fabrication and engineering firm. John was an accomplished pilot and loved flying his private plane. He enjoyed his flower garden; roses were his favorite. He also enjoyed golfing, fishing, and card playing.

John William Bogush peacefully passed away at Friendship Village in Upper St. Clair on Sunday, April 24, 2016, at age 90.

He was the beloved husband of Grace Leona (Steigerwald) Bogush for 65 years; loving father of Edward (Marianne) Bogush, Elaine (Michael) McCarty, Anita (Bob) Swarner, Janet (Matt) Kluck, and David (Beth) Bogush; adored grandfather of 12; caring great-grandfather of two; brother of Genevieve Winkler, Bernard Bogush, and the late Helen Bauer. He is truly missed by all his family and friends.

Arrangements were by Beinauer Funeral Home, 2828 Washington Rd., McMurray. Visitation was on Wednesday, April 27, 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Thursday, April 28, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Louise de Marillac Church, Upper St. Clair. Interment followed in St. John Vianney Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions were requested to the PA Association of the Blind, 1800 West St., Homestead, PA 15120.
