She was born Aug. 4, 1916, in Benton, a daughter of the late Franklin and Blanche (Force) German. She was married to Michael P. Cunningham, who preceded her in death on Sept. 5, 1974, and later married Dr. John F. Lewis, who preceded her in death on July 18, 1989.
Irene was a 1934 graduate of Sunbury High School.
She was employed by Sunbury Auto Parts for more than 20 years as a bookkeeper and at the Selinsgrove Center as a housekeeper, from where she retired.
Irene was a 70-year member of First Baptist Church, Fourth and Chestnut streets, Sunbury, and also a member of the Senior Saints Group at Emmanuel Bible Fellowship Church, Sunbury, and the Pennsylvania State Retirement Association.
She and her second husband, Dr. Lewis, owned a cabin called Bergenheim near Troxelville, where they enjoyed spending their summers together. Irene also enjoyed reading.
Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Glenn M. and Diana Cunningham of Sunbury; a daughter-in-law, Sue Cunningham of Shamokin Dam; five grandchildren, Michelle, T. Jay, Craig and Brian Cunningham and Tracey Bonney; four great-grandchildren, Caitlin, Paige, Trey and Liam Cunningham; two sisters, Evelyn Henehan of Allentown and Alice Hollenbach of Port Trevorton; and nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death, in addition to her first and second husbands, was a son, Edward F., on July 18, 1994; two brothers, William and Earl; and two sisters, Ruth Walker and Gladys Cechman.
Friends may call from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church, Fourth and Chestnut streets, Sunbury, where the service will be celebrated at 11, with her pastor, the Rev. Darren Hunt, officiating.
Burial will be in Pomfret Manor Cemetery, Sunbury.
