Larry Eugene Cartwright died Aug. 28, 2009. He was 70

Mr. Cartwright was born May 31, 1939, in Cando, N.D., one of five children born to Scophus and Isabelle Cartwright . The family moved to Wenatchee, Wash., and then to Portland. He attended Marysville Elementary School, Franklin High School and Portland State University.

He met Bonnie Ferguson in 1960 and they married in 1964.

In 1965, Mr. Cartwright answered an advertisement for a production clerk with Freightliner Corp., and that position launched a 37-year career with the truck building corporation. He rose from the entry position to truck assembly manager to plant manager and finally to senior vice president of manufacturing, where he remained until he retired in 2002. His anecdotes about the early years at Freightliner were repeated and embellished, and often followed by 'Those were the good old days of business.'

Mr. Cartwright had a passion for family, sports, politics and civic doings. He was a Portland Trailblazer season ticket holder for 30 years.

Survivors include his wife Bonnie of Lake Oswego, sons Derek Cartwright of Lake Oswego and Corey Cartwright of Portland, and brother Ken Cartwright of Portland.

A celebration of Mr. Cartwright 's life will be held Sept. 5 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Oswego Lake Country Club, 20 Iron Mountain Blvd. in Lake Oswego.
