Philip Randal “Randy” Sprague, 38, of Hull, a grain and livestock farmer, died Thurs. (May 18, 1995) from complications after treatment for acute myelogenous leukemia at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis. He was first admitted to Blessing Hospital in Quincy on March 20, 1995.

He was born Sept. 2, 1956, in Fort Jackson Hospital in Columbia, SC, a son of Merritt William and Patricia Ann Paxton Sprague of Falls Church, VA, former residents of Hull. He married Carol Elaine Scranton June 29, 1985, in Kinderhook. She survives.

Mr. Sprague graduated from the College of Agriculture at the University of Illinois in 1978. He attended graduate school in an agricultural economics master’s degree program at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY, 1978-80. He became president of Sprague Farms Inc. in Hull in 1981.

Mr. Sprague was associated with N.D. Harrison II, certified public accountant, in Pittsfield since 1983 in the preparation of income tax returns. He also was a field and sales representative. He also was a field and sales representative for a firm providing leased swine breeding stock.

He recently was president the Hull Fire Protection District and chairman of the Two Rivers Regional Council Economic Development Committee. He was appointed by Gov. Jim Edgar to the Task Force on Land Use and Water Priorities. He was a member of the 1996 class of Illinois Agricultural Leadership Foundation.

Mr. Sprague was member of the board, committee chairman and former president of the Pike County Farm Bureau and a member of the Hull Masonic Lodge. While in college, he served as the chapter president and business manager of the Farm House social fraternity.

Survivors include his parents; two brother, Marvin Kent “Mark” Sprague of Decatur and Merritt Andrew Sprague of Urbana; a niece, Annamarie Sprague of Decatur; and two grandparents, Mrs. Ella L. Sprague of Hull and Forrest M. Paxton of Pittsfield.

Services were conducted at 2 PM Sunday in the United Baptist Church in Kinderhook. Burial was in the Kinderhook Cemetery.
