Mr. Abbott was a USMC veteran serving in the South Pacific during WWII. He also served in Korea. He was life member of the Gen. Thomas Holcomb Det. of the Marine Corps League, the China Marines Assoc., the Mason-Dixon VFW Post #7234, Ocean View, DE, an assistant director and Close-Order Drill Instructor of the Diamond State Drum and Bugle Corps and a member of the DuPont Country Club. Mr. Abbott retired in 1980 from Dupont Chambers Works as a welder. He was also known to many of his friends as Pierre.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ann Myers Abbott; 4 sons, Eugene H., Jr. of Greenville, Raymond W. of Townsend, Dennis P. of Wilmington and Richard S. of Newark; a daughter, Ann T. Abbott Pinghera of Colonial Heights; a sister, Marjorie Swan of Southfield, MI; 8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
