John Towner passed away after a brief illness. He was born in Bangor, Maine to the late Wayland and Betty Towner. He was a veteran of the Army Air Forces in WW II. He graduated from Michigan State University with a B.S. in Education and a master's degree from the University of Illinois. He was a life long member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. He was active in many local organizations and was always admired for his generosity and his willingness to give a helping hand.
He was a member of Rotary International. He served as the president of many local clubs and has the distinction of achieving 53 years of perfect attendance.
He spent his entire professional career in real estate, beginning in 1951. He was active as broker in all phases of the real estate business at the local, state and national levels. He served several terms as president of local real estate boards, chairman of state committees, and was graduate of the Real Estate Institute. In addition, he taught real estate for several years at the college level.
He was a lifelong golfer and sports enthusiast. An avid traveler, he especially enjoyed returning to Ledgewood Lodge, his family cottage in Surry, Maine.
