Michael Henry Schweinsberg, M.D.

Michael Henry Schweinsberg, M.D. of McKinney, Texas passed away March 25, 2016 at the age of 89. He was born November 30,1926, to Wilmer Schweinsberg and Sara Katherine (Dinger) Schweinsberg, M.D., in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Michael lived through the Great Depression. He enlisted in the United States Navy just before World War II ended. He always said he missed the greatest adventure of the 20th century. He attended Temple University School of Medicine and The University of Pennsylvania. He went on to serve his country in the United States Air Force where he served as a doctor in the Korean War, stationed on Guam. He then moved to McKinney, Texas where he practiced urology at the VA Hospital there. He married Sonja Pickett on October 27, 1962 in McKinney. They moved to Dallas where he went into private practice for over 30 years. Thomas was born in 1964, and Kristina in 1967. In Dallas, they were members of Believers Chapel, where Michael served as a deacon for many years.

In 1990, Michael and Sonja moved to Des Moines, Iowa, where he continued his practice at the VA Hospital and served as a professor of urologic surgery education and training through the University of Iowa. After he retired at age 80, they moved to the warm air and beautiful sunsets of Mesa, Arizona. Then, family and friends were thrilled to welcome their return to McKinney in 2009.

Michael had his private pilot's license and loved to fly, was an avid fly fisherman, snow skier, and enjoyed square and round dancing with his wife, Sonja.

Michael was a man of God and a man of prayer, who walked in the Spirit, always trusting in the Lord. He cherished his wife, and loved his children and grandchildren dearly.

He is survived by his wife, Sonja Schweinsberg, son, Thomas Schweinsberg, his wife Angela and their two children Michael Allen and Sophia Nicole of Frisco, Texas; daughter, Kristina Blake and husband Thomas and their two children, Garrett Joseph and Harrison Sean of Midlothian, Texas; brother, Steve Schweinsberg of Waverly, Tennessee; numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of other loving family and friends.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Wilmer "Bill" Schweinsberg, Jr.
