Dr. George was a soldier based at Fort Carson was chief of the Evans Army Community Hospital pathology department in Fort Carson, CO. He married Maren George on March 25, 1988. Dr. George grew up in Phoenix, Arizona and attended BYU and obtained his undergraduate degree in 1984. He was accepted into medical school at Tulane University, obtaining a MD degree in 1988. Immediately after medical school, Dr. George joined the U.S. Army. Barton's military career took him to the states of Washington, North Carolina, Germany and finally to Evans Hospital at Ft. Carson, where he was the Chief of Pathology. He was recently promoted to the rank of Colonel. Col. George served in many capacities within the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, including a two-year Mission in South Africa. He was an Eagle Scout, had many leadership positions in Scouting and served as a Bishop within the LDS Church. He was born to Curtis and Merilyn George, who preceded him in death Barton is survived by his wife, Maren and their four children; Allison, Angela, Ryan and Janelle and a sister, Deborah Fish and her seven children. He was piloting his paraglider at an altitude of around 150 feet, when his craft somehow tangled with another paraglider. George became entangled in his aircraft's fabric canopy, sending the plane to the ground. He was 46.
