Loyde Hampton Colson, 84, of Hollis, went to be with Jesus on Saturday, September 9, 2006.
He was born July 28, 1922, in Wellington, Texas, to Avo (Cook) and Willie Allen Colson. He graduated from Wellington High School in 1942.
He entered the United States Army following graduation, and he served his country during World War II. He was wounded in battle at St. Lo, France, on Aug. 12, 1944. Loyde received a marksmanship medal and the Purple Heart award for his service.
Loyde married Betty Pearl Hays on December 24, 1946, in Wellington, Texas. They raised four children and shared 59 wonderful years together.
He farmed for several years in Harmon County, and he was custodian at Gould School for a time. Loyde was well known for his expertise in contract concrete work. He was an active member of Faith Baptist Church were he served as treasurer for 17 years.
Loyde liked gardening, fishing, remodeling his home and, most of all, spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife Betty Colson of the home in Hollis; two sons, Loyd A. Colson and wife Carol, and Allen Colson and wife Rhonda, all of Hollis; two daughters, Lynda Ramsey of Hollis, and Verona Robinson and husband Larry Ted of Gould. Loyde is also survived by his wonderful grandchildren, Cara McGee and husband Gary, Rusty Colson and wife Nora, Tara Johnson and husband Jim, Bryan Ramsey and wife Lora, Chad Robinson and wife Ashley, Jerimy Colson and wife Beverly, April Dill and husband Craig, Mark Robinson and wife Danna, Jaime Colson and K.C. Ramsey and wife Cindy; great-grandchildren, Candra, Cole and Cami McGee, Brittany, Landon and Raymond Ramsey, Magdalen Johnson, Blakely and Bryson Dill, Rustin and Ashtin Colson and Taylor, Marlie and Morgan Robinson; his sister, Velma Rainey of Wellington; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Ella and Clara, and six brothers, Charlie, Clyde, Cecil, Tommy, W.E. "Jack," and his twin, Floyde.
