Death Claims M. R. Leggett of Moorefield

Pioneer Resident Was Long Generous Benefactor To Schools

Marcus Rusell Leggett, prominent Independence county farmer and stock man and one of-the largest landowners in this section of the state, died at 8:20 o'clock this morning at his home bear Moorefield.

Mr. Legget, who was 80 years of age, suffered a stroke of paralysis recently and sustained serious injuries in a fall when he was siezed with the attack. He lived only a few days.

He was the son of Elizabeth Dugan and Jerry M. Leggett, early pioneer residents of the Moorefield community, who settled there after coming from North Carolina. He lived his entire life and died in the same house in which he was born. He was never married.

Mr. Leggett was known and eteemed as a generous benefactor to educational institutions, having made large donations to Arkansas College and to Methodist schools in the state.

He is survived by two nephews, Roy H. Leggett of Moorefield and Clede Martin of Little Rock and two nieces, Mrs. R. L. Garner of Moorefield, and Mrs. Kirk Rutherford of Little Rock.

The funeral services will be conducted at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon at the Moorefield United Methodist church with the Rev. Don Holman officiating. Burial will be in Rehobeth cemetery conducted by the Crouch Funeral Home.

Pallbearer will be: Milton Wilson, Charles Woodruff, andn Will Money of Newark, Y. M. Engles of Sulphur Rock, and H. H. Morgan and Lewis B. Massey of Moorefield.
