He attended Cornell University in Ithaca, NY, and was employed as a Real Estate Broker for the Baldwin Boyer Agency in Essex. He married Juliette Hills Curry in NY in 1937. He spent summers in Boothbay Harbor, ME, and also had lived many years in both Madison and Essex. He was a member of the Boston University Club. He was an avid bridge player in the Seacoast Area, an avid sailor, and an avid reader.

He was predeceased by his parents, George Farnsworth Chapin and Carolyn McConnell Chapin; his sister, Carolyn Chapin; his wife, Juliette Hills Curry Chapin (1910-1991); and his son, Malcolm Farnsworth Chapin. He was survived by a daughter Lucinda C Merrill of York, ME; a son Bruce W Chapin, of Dover NH; a grandson and granddaughter; and one great-grandchild.
