Richard Oscar Lohr was born on May 6, 1921, in Lohrville, Iowa, the son of John Hubert and Hazel Laura Barton Lohr. He had 4 siblings: Elsie Jane, Lora Belle, Margaret Ellen, and Howard.


Lohrville was named after Richard's great-grandparents, Jacob A. and Mary E. Robertson Lohr, because it was laid out on land originally owned by them.


Richard served his country as a Tech Sergeant in the United States Army in World War II.

He was an Engineer on a B-24 Bomber, assigned to the 458th Bomber Group, 753rd Bomber Squadron.


He married Betty Jane Shay on February 20, 1955. They had 5 children: Stephen, Edwin, Ivan, Alan, and Amy.


Richard farmed near Lohrville about 2 miles from his parents' farm. The farmhouse is now gone. Richard and Betty moved into the town of Lohrville in 1990.


Richard Oscar Lohr passed away from cancer on November 30, 1997, in Lohrville at age 76 1/2. His funeral was held on December 5, 1997, at the United Methodist Church in Lohrville.
