Carl E. Houck, Sr., 89 of Carthage, Missouri formerly of Sarcoxie, Missouri departed this life on Saturday, March 5, 2016 at Landmark Hospital in Joplin, Missouri.

Carl entered this life on November 7, 1926 in Jasper County, Missouri to the union of the late Elbert I. and Edith May (Kisling) Houck. H Carl was a lifelong area resident of Sarcoxie and was a graduate of Sarcoxie High School. He proudly served in the United States Army during World War II. Stationed in Heidelberg, Germany as a Master Sargent he received several commendations. The World War II Victory Medal, expert rifleman 745, expert machine gun, top enlisted man in office, T5 clerk typist, clerk general, Overseas Service Bar, Good Conduct Medal and Army of Occupational of Germany Medal.. Carl returned home in 1947. He was united in marriage to Clara Jean Moss and three children were born to this union. He was employed as a machinist for Juvenile and Justin Boot for many years, retiring in 1986. He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a little league coach for years as well as coaching men’s softball. He was past president of the baseball association, involved with the local P.T.A association, enjoyed going to casinos, eating out and walking daily with his two sisters and he also walked several years at the mall.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Lorena Haworth and Juanita Long.

Carl is survived by his children, Carl E. Houck, Jr. and wife Linda of Carthage, Missouri, Carolyn J. Conway and husband Dale, and Cathy M. Patrick and husband Randy, all of Sarcoxie, Missouri; three sisters, Neomia Houck and Loretta Riddle both of Carthage, Missouri and Laura “Mavor” Block and husband Cecil of Sarcoxie, Missouri; one brother in law, Jim Haworth of Carthage, Missouri; six grandchildren, Jeff Houck and wife Angela, Jill Keplar and husband George, Ryan Conway and fiancée April, Alyssa Bayless and husband Seth, Carlin Patrick and wife Emily and Katie Patrick; nine great grandchildren; as well as a host of other family and friends.

Funeral services with full military honors are 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 9, 2016 in the chapel of Housh-Goodwin Funeral Home with Pastor Clifford Block officiating. Burial to follow in Dudman Cemetery. Those honoring his life by servicing as pallbearers are Ryan Conway, Jeff Houck, George Keplar, Davin Conway, Wayne Nixon and Bob Wecker. Honorary pallbearers are Carlin Patrick, Jim Haworth and Jerry Edwards. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 6-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The family has requested memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home. On-line condolences may be sent to the family through our website
