Services for Rachel Q.Blackwood, 86, formerly of 211 S. Nichols will be at 10 am Thursday in Meeks Mortuary. Burial will be in Elm Ridge Cemetery.
Calling hours at the mortuary are from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm on Wednesday and anytime prior to the service on Thursday.
Mrs. Blackwood died Saturday in a nursing home in Columbia City. She was the widow of Gilbert A. Blackwood.
She was a native of Bartholomew County,graduated from Columbus High School and Indiana State Normal School at Terre Haute and taught school in Columbus for several years.
Mrs. Blackwood came to Muncie over fifty years ago and resided here until moving to Columbia City in 1977.
She was a member of Friends Memorial Church, Halycon Club, Emamon Club, Delaware County Retired Teachers Association and Whitley County Retired Teachers Association.
Survivors include her daughter Mrs. Glenn (Eloise) Frank, Columbia City and two sons, Darwin Blackwood, Stanford, Conn and Parker Blackwood, New Jersey, a sister Leota Pebworth, Indianapolis, 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Her husband, who died in 1972, taught at Central High School for more than 35 years.
