Mr. Blackwood was a Columbus native and graduate of Columbus High School. He received his B.A. degree from Hanover College and later did graduate work at Purdue University. During World War I Mr. Blackwood served in France with the United States Army.
The first six years of his teaching career were spent in Columbus. Before retiring, he had taught for 35 years at Muncie Central High School where he had been an instructor in both physics and electricity.
Mr. Blackwood was a member of the Friends Memorial Church, Retired Teachers Association and Local 855 IBEW.
Surviving are his wife, Rachel, two sons Darwin Blackwood, Staten Island, N.Y. and Parker Blackwood, Porta San Juan, Puerto Rico, a daughter, Mrs. Glenn Frank, Columbia City and 13 grandchildren and two nieces and two nephews.
Services will be conducted at 10 am Tuesday at the Meeks Mortuary with Xen Harvey officiating. Interment will follow in Elm Ridge.
Friends may call at the mortuary from 2 to 5 and from 7 to 9 pm on Monday.
