Dwight Allen THOMAS, 56, of 10223 17th Road, Argos, passed away at 5:20 p.m. Dec. 31, at his residence following a short illness.
Born in South Bend, he was the son of Kenneth Earl and Ruth Mildred (Ditmire) Thomas. He married Thresa "Terri" Baker on Aug. 7, 1982, in Niles, Mich., and she survives in Argos.
He was a plant supervisor at Standard Motor, Mishawaka, since 2004, and also worked at Ziebart. Before that, he worked in Argos at Ristance/Dana Corp.
He lived in the Argos community the last 21 years after moving from South Bend.
He graduated from Jackson High School in South Bend with the Class of 1971. He served his country in the U.S. Army as a military policeman from Aug. 29, 1972, to March 1, 1974. He continued to serve in the U.S. Army Reserves and was honorably discharged on Aug. 28, 1978. He was a faithful supporter of DAV and VFW and a member of Lakeville United Methodist Church, Lakeville.
He earned a bachelor's degree in business management from Indiana University South Bend.
Dwight was a huge Indiana University basketball and Notre Dame football fan. He loved Argos basketball and taking his grandchildren with him, working in his garden and mowing his lawn.
In addition to his wife, Terri Thomas, he is survived by a son, Bryan Thomas and wife Cynthia, Rochester; a daughter, Laura M. Thomas and fiance Max Colon, Mishawaka; two grandchildren, Taylor L. and Alexus L. of Rochester; his mother, Ruth Thomas, South Bend; and his brother, Mark R. Thomas and wife Deborah, Osceola.
He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Earl Thomas.
His funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Earl-Grossman Funeral Home, 208 N. Michigan St., Argos, with visitation from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday. The Rev. Barry R. Borst will officiate. Burial will be at a later date. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, 3816 Paysphere Circle, Chicago, IL 60674, or Lakeville United Methodist Church, 610 N.
