Mr. Pulley died Thursday in Durant, Okla.
He was born Aug. 17, 1915, in Palestine to Will Pulley and Nattie (Sutherlin) Pulley.
Mr. Pulley had lived in the Boswell community since 1968 and resided there until August 2005, when he moved to the Alterra Sterling House. He married Geneva Mae Newton on Oct. 8, 1939 in Palestine. Earl enjoyed dancing, playing dominoes and living the country life. While living at the Sterling House, he became known as the "turtle man." He acquired this name because he was the first resident who the turtles responded to. He spent every evening in the courtyard feeding the turtles.
He was a retired service station owner. He served in the Army during World War II. He was an active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Geneva; his parents; three brothers, Vaden, Don and Wallace Pulley; sister, Blanche Hickman; one granddaughter, Christian Pulley; and son-in-law, Mark Vansickle.
He is survived by two sons, David Pulley and his wife Linda of McKinney, and Charlie Pulley and his wife Jill of Woodland, Calif.; two daughters, LaVerne Baker and her husband Bill of Woodland, Calif. and Pam Vansickle of Boswell, Okla.; nine grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the director and employees of the Alterra Sterling House and unity Hospice of Durant.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
