FLAT ROCK - John Garrison Dake, 54, a resident of the Cartersville community, died at his residence on Friday, Jan. 29, 2010.

He had multiple system atrophy, a degenerative neurological disorder.

John was the son of Christine Scott Dake of the Cartersville community and the late Paul Garrison Dake. He was born in Roane County, Tenn., and raised in Kingston, Tenn., and Simpsonville, S.C.

He graduated from Hillcrest High School, Simpsonville, and received his B.A. and M.A. degrees from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. He designed and built his home on Sand Mountain. He was employed by Intech, Inc., of Chattanooga until his retirement on disability in 2007. In his work he traveled extensively within the United States and Canada.

He was preceded in death by an infant sister, Sarah Frances Dake.

He is survived by his brothers, Dr. Thomas Scott (Judy) Dake, of Columbia, Tenn., Dr. James David (Dotty) Dake, of Arlington, Va., Robert Samuel (Kay) Dake, of North Hollywood, Fla., Stephen Paul Dake, of Arlington, and Dr. William Austin (Laura) Dake, of Versailles, Ky.; nieces, Amanda Christine Dake (Chris) Rowley, of Dallas, Texas, Allyson Lovell Dake (John) Kingston, of New York, N.Y., Julia Christine Dake and Janet Lyn Dake; and nephew James Matthew Dake, all of Versailles; and a great-nephew, Thomas Dake Rowley, of Dallas.

Funeral services will be at 6 p.m. CST Sunday, Jan. 31, at the Corner Stone Funeral Chapel, Ider, Ala.

The family will visit with friends from 5-6 p.m. CST Sunday, Jan. 31, at the Corner Stone Funeral Chapel.

Burial will be at Beulah Cemetery.

His brothers will serve as pallbearers.
