Enlisted (date unknown), he was mustered into Company K, 57th Virginia Infantry as a Private.
POW 4/1/1865 Battle of Five Forks, VA.; confined 4/5/1865 Point Lookout, MD.; Oath of Allegiance there 6/28/1865 and released.

On 4/15/1905, age 60, he applied for a partial disability Confederate Soldier Pension due to "paralysis." He was approved for $30 per annum.

The 57th Infantry Regiment was organized in September, 1861, by adding five independent companies to the five companies of E.F. Keen's Battalion. Some of the men were from Powhatan, Pittsylvania, and Botetourt counties.
