John Pyatt moved to the United States as a young man and lived in Detroit, Michigan for several years. He moved to the Prescott area about 1929 where he owned and operated an upholstery shop. He also worked for McIlvain Motors for many years and owned several mining claims in the Walker area. He retired to Wickenburg where he lived for the four years prior to his death.
