A.G. Harris was the son of Wyatt and Dorcas Harris. He married Sarah Jane Brown, daughter of James and Mary Clower Brown on November 21, 1852. He had nine children as well as infant twins who died shortly after birth. He also helped care for the family of his brother, William Craven Harris after his death in the Civil War. Austin was a successful farmer and owned a cotton gin. He was a delegate to the Democratic Congressional District Convention, operated a retail store in Buford briefly, was a Buford postmaster and one of the first commisioners. He then returned to Suwanee. According to his obituary, "He was one of the most prominent, active and influential business men in this community; was a leading member of the Methodist church, an ardent temperence man and was noted for his strict integrity and piety." He was buried with full masonic honors. Also served in the Civil War.
