William "Pappy" White
Sherman-Graveside service for William Carroll "Pappy" White, 93, who died Oct. 26, 1994, at Wilson N. Jones Hospital, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Cedarlawn Memorial Park. The Rev. Thomas Beall will officate. Arrangements are under the direction of Waldo Funeral Home.
White was born Apr 10, 1901, in Denton, the son of William Wilson White and Myrtle Mae Hawthorne White. He attended May schools in Denton County (now known as Cooper Creek schools) where he was the last survivor of that school system. He married Gertude Haggard, Aug 1, 1927, in Denton. He was employed as a miller for the GBR Smith Milling Company in Sherman several years ago he retired from Quaker Oats in 1969. He was a member of the Retired Millers Association and a member of East Sherman Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Dorothy Bonsworth of Ft. Worth; two brothers Bill White of Corinth and P.H. (Pat) White of Collinsville; five sisters Georgie Grimes of Tioga, Mildred Thompson of Farmers Branch, Lucille Batte of Atlanta, Ga, Iva Mae Campbell of Redding, CA, and Blanche Simmons of Hope, AK; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
