Asa Shaw was born in Stephentown, N.Y. in 1789. His father was Anthony Shaw IV, a soldier in the American Revolution. Anthony's parents were: Anthony Shaw & Susannah (Butts) Shaw. Asa's mother, was Susannah Remington, daughter of John Remington and Abigail (Greene) Remington, they were from Jamestown, Newport County, Rhode Island.

Asa and three of his brothers, Peter, Russell & Anthony V left N.Y. and moved to Brown County, Ohio, around 1802.

Asa married Elizabeth White(born in 1795 in Stephentown, N.Y.) on December 1st, 1812 in Adams County, Ohio.

Asa was in the War of 1812.

He brought the beginnings of the Freemason Lodge to Ripley, Ohio, having the first meetings in his home, which later burned down.

Asa & Elizabeth had at least 5 children.
