MRS. BESSIE PATTERSON, 86, DIES AT HOME IN MOORELAND
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon in the Methodist Church for Mrs. Bessie Patterson who passed away last Friday in her home in Mooreland. Rev. Herman C. Gingig was in charge of the services. Burial was made in Mooreland Cemetery with Knittel Furneral Home in charce of arrangements.
Mrs. Patterson has been a resident of the Quinlan and Mooreland community for the past 48 years, she had moved to Mooreland from Quinlan 12 years ago. (Quinlan, Oklahoma be have been the mailing address, but she had lived on the Patterson Homestead in Major County since they came to Oklahoma).
OBITUARY
Bessie Farley Russell was born in Will County, Illinois on March 10, 1863 to David and Elizabeth Stevenson Russell. Bessie's mother died when she was young. Bessie's father remarried a few years later. Bessie spent her girlhood in Illinois and New Jersey. Bessie departed this life April 22, 1949 in her home in Mooreland, Oklahoma, age 86 years, 1 month, and 12 days.
Bessie Farley Russell and Hugh Caldwell were married in Kirkwood, Warren County, Illinois on March 23, 1882 by E.W. Thomson, Pastor of the Presbyterian Church. Bessie and Hugh has three sons born in Warren County, Illinois. They lived there until the spring of 1887. At that time they moved to Iowa and one son was born there. Bessie and Hugh continued to live there until March 1897 when they moved to Missouri.
In the spring of 1898 Bessie united with the Methodist Episcopal Church at Elmo, Missouri. In the fall of that year Bessie moved with her family to Sumner County, Kansas where they remained until the year 1901. In the spring of that year they moved to Major County, Oklahoma. Bessie and Hugh homestead in Major County, Oklahoma. Bessie and Hugh had two sons born on the Homestead. As the older boys married and took over the farm, Bessie and Hugh took the covered wagon and the buggy and traveled around. They visited relatives and made their home in the covered wagon. They took the buggy to other places close by that they wanted to see. In the later part of 1937 Bessie and Hugh moved to Mooreland, Oklahoma where she made her home until until her death.
To Mr. and Mrs. Patterson were born six sons, five who are lived to manhood. Their names and places of residence are as follows: David W. Patterson, of Pomona, California; Hugh Franklin Patterson, of Coldwater, Kansas; Arney Russell Patterson, of Mooreland, Oklahoma; Samuel Fredrick Patterson, of Muskogee, Oklahoma; and Jesses Robert Patterson, of Sherman, Oklahoma. Harry Patterson was stillborn on Octber 12, 1902 and is buried on the Patterson Homestead, Major County, Oklahoma.
These with their families and following named relatives are left to mourn the loss of Mrs. Patterson; John K. russell, a brother of Harper, Kansas; two sisters: Mrs. James Schlup of Ordway, Colorado and Mrs. Annabelle Fox of Duquoin, Kansas and their families. She has living 21 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
There are many relatives and friends who will greatly miss her.

Russell, Lucille Russell and John V. Russell of Harper, Kansas; Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Wells, of Garden City, Kansas; Mrs. James Schlup, Ordway, Colorado; Mr. and Mrs. William May, Jr., of Quinlan, Oklahoma; Mr. and Mrs. William Kerwin and family, of Wichita, Kansas; Mr. and Mrs. Leo Patterson, Coldwater, Kansas; Mr. and Mrs. L. I. Hatfied, of Enid, Oklahoma; Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Clem and son, of Norman, Oklahoma; and Mr. and Mrs. John Shuck and daughter, of Woodward, Oklahoma.
