The son of Moses "Mose" Wise. His daughter, Thelma, believes the name Wise was anglicized from "Weiss." Moses may have been of Jewish heritage. William's first name may have been David, which he never used except to name one son David, as he's listed in the 1880 census by initials "D.W.C." His parents are buried in Dola OH, where they were known to have lived by their grandchildren. In most photos we have of William he's cuddling his children or bathing the boys in a wash pan on the porch. Alas, we can't post them all for you to see. He was a truly loving man.
