Frederick Herbert Davis Weidman, Jr., beloved husband and father, passed away on Wednesday, September 20, 2006. He was born on October 4, 1922 in Harrisburg, PA. He was the son of Frederick H.D. Weidman and Mary Elizabeth Senft Weidman of Nashville, TN and was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 57 years, Peg Roberts Weidman, daughter Elaine Bibby and sister Mary Zarfoss. He is survived by his son, Dr. Frederick H.D. Weidman III and his wife Bernette; daughtersL Randall Binford and husband Doug, Elizabeth Burgess and husband Dale, and Harriett Gibbs and husband Charles, and son-in-law James Bibby; grandchildren Margaret Binford, Kendall Hall, Peyton Burgess, Charles Gibbs, Jr., Davis Gibbs, Bradford Gibbs, Frederick Herbert Davis Weidman IV and Will Weidman; and great-grandson Joseph Hall. He is also survived by brothers Dr. Stuart Weidman and family of Germantown, TN and Richard Weidman and family of Baton Rouge, LA; sister Marjorie Robertson and family of Winter Haven, FL; and brother in law Everett Roberts of Chattanooga, TN and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Weidman served with distinction and honor as a first lieutenant in the 9th Army Air Corps during World War II in the European Theater. His squadron was know as Corbin's Crusaders. Following the end of the war, Lt. Weidman served with the European Air Transport Service transporting war criminals to their trials in Nuremberg, Germany. He was a graduate of Vanderbilt University with a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering and enjoyed a long and successful career with Union Carbide Corp. in Charleston, WV and New Orleans, LA. After his retirement from Union Carbide, Mr. Weidman served as vice president of Walle Corp. in New Orleans. Mr. Weidman was a member of the Huguenot Society, Krewe of Alexis, Round Table Club, the Civil War Round Table of New Orleans and the Thackeray Society while residing in New Orleans. He was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity and was an Eagle Scout. Mr. Weidman was an active member of the Church of Christ, serving as a deacon in the Kanawha Valley Church of Christ in Charleston, before joining St. Charles Avenue Presbyterian Church in New Orleans and affiliating with Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church of Dallas. Mr. Weidman was a devoted and attentive husband, a loving and supportive father and grandfather, and devout Christian. He was loved and respected by many and will be greatly missed. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, September 23, 2006 at Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church, 9800 Preston Road, Dallas, TX, Dr. Blair Monie presiding, with a reception to follow in the parlor. A Graveside Service will follow at 2:00 PM on Sunday, September 24 at Chattanooga Memorial Park, Chattanooga, Tenn. The family would like to acknowledge their appreciation for the care and devotion shown to Mr. Weidman in his last years by his caregiver James Overbay, as well as the staff of Edgemere and his attending physicians. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to St. Charles Avenue Presbyterian Church, 1545 State St., New Orleans, LA 70118, to aid in the restoration of its sanctuary damaged by Hurricane Katrina.
