Philip Hood Obituary
MATTOON -- Philip N. Hood, 76, of Mattoon, passed from this life at 3:05 a.m. on Friday, October 20, 2006, at his residence. Funeral services in tribute to his life will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 22nd, at the First Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Anne Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the Humboldt Township Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon at the Church. The Schilling Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements. Philip was born May 5, 1930, in Humboldt Township, Coles County, a son of Charles W. and Denta (Moore) Hood. He married his sweetheart, Evelyn L. Tuggle, on February 22, 1964. Survivors include his loving wife, Evelyn Hood; one son, Melvin G. Hood of Mattoon; three grandchildren, Scott A. Hood and Andrew M. Hood, both of Mattoon, and Jamie L. Hood of Chicago; one great-grandson, Skyler A. Hood, of Mattoon; a brother, Dale Hood and wife Eileen of Mattoon; and a sister, Neva Hood of Mattoon. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Ethel Thompson. Mr. Hood was a retired farmer. Philip was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Coles County Farm Bureau, American Legion Post 88, Loyal Order of the Moose, and the Eagles Club. Memorial gifts in his honor are suggested to the First Presbyterian Church.
