Eslanda was the first African American analytical chemist at Columbia Medical Centre. With her husband, Paul Robeson, she devoted many years fighting for social justice for black people. She appeared in two films with Paul, "Borderline" (1930), and "Big Fella" (1937). She wrote his biography (Paul Robeson, Negro) in 1930, and died of cancer in 1965.
