John Richard Disler, SMSgt (Retired), went to the Lord on 4 February 2016 after having a stroke on November 10, 2015. He was born on March 19, 1931 in Batavia, New York and was married to Betty (Rhines) Disler for over 64 years. He is survived by four loving children: (Colonel-retired) Sharon Disler, John Steven (Sylvia) Disler, Susan Disler and Sandy (Matthew, Sr) Jenkins. He had one brother,James Disler married to Kathey in Fort Collins, Co. John had five wonderful grandchildren: Jenessa Disler, John Steven (Shelia) Disler, Jason Disler, Matthew Jenkins, Jr. and Mandy Jenkins. He had one great grandchild, Saylee Disler. He enjoyed a career in the United States Air Force for 24 years having tours in Germany, Thailand and thirteen other bases in the U.S. He retired from Northside Independent School District working in the bus transportation division, and was a pioneer in converting school buses to propane gas. He was an active volunteer at Wilford Hall Medical Center accruing 4819 hours popping popcorn, manning desks at Hauth birthing center and clinic information ; he was president of Wilford Hall Volunteer Association and was awarded volunteer excellence award and the Presidential Volunteer award for his service. He was a trustee, youth director, usher, and United Methodist Men Member at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church (UMC).

He loved to bowl, golf, fish, woodwork, work on cars and televisions, and travel, which included Germany, Italy, France, Greece, Jamaica, Mexico, England and many places in the U.S. He coached little league and AJBC bowling leagues. He was president of Springvale Neighborhood Association involved with cellular on patrol and graduated from citizen's police academy. He volunteered at Majestic Theatre as an usher. He was a true patriot and a dedicated military man. We will miss our husband, dad, grandpa, carpart, and great grandpa. He has gone ahead to reserve space for all of us to join him and be a family again.

Burial is scheduled at Ft Sam Houston cemetery at 10:00 on 26 Feb 2016 followed by a memorial service at 11:30 at Chapel Hill UMC. In lieu of flowers, any donations may be sent to Chapel Hill UMC, 4114 SW Loop 410, San Antonio, TX 78227.
