BRISBANE DEATH OF EARL'S HEIR
BRISBANE. January 2— Hon Gerald William Desmond Plunkett. heir and brother of the Earl of Fingall (Ireland) has died in Brisbane.
Hon. Gerald Plunkett worked on the Main Roads Commission staff. He had been ill intermittently for some years and died in the Brisbane General Hospital on Friday after a week in bed. Ten people only - no relatives were present — yesterday attended his funeral at St. Stephen's Cathedral, where Archbishop Duhig officiated.
Hon. Gerald Plunkett was buried in the Nudgee cemetery.
'Gerry was always a gentleman,'said Mrs. E. Staples, of Hawthorne, as she watched the cortege move from the Cathedral. 'I've known him for 15 years. He worked under my husband in the Main Roads Commission at Townsville years ago and that was how we came to know the family. We had a cable from the Earl yesterday.'
Born in 1899. Hon. Gerald Plunkett was educated at Downside Abbey school in England. He travelled to America before coming to Australia.
