Mrs Minnie Van Nostrand Young, one of Greenport's oldest residents, died in her home on Third Street, Thursday October 20 after a long illness.
Mrs Young was the wife of the late Leander Young and mother of Ansel V Young, Mayor of Greenport. Shew as born in Greenport, February 1st, 1851, and lived there all her life. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church.
Her mother, Mary Van Nostrand, was a niece of the poet Walt Whitman.
Services were conducted Sunday afternoon from her late home, Rev Kermit Jones, Pastor of the Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial followed in Greenhill Cemetery under direction of S B Horton Co.
Those surviving, in addition to Mayor Young, are two daughters, Mrs Zora Tuthill, wife of former Supervisor David Tuthill, and Mrs Vera Sage, wife of Charles Sage, president of the Sage Brick Manufacturing Company, all of Greenport; and one granddaughter.
