Russell Neely Ruble, age 99, of Clifton, Tennessee, departed this life on Thursday, November 27, 2014 at Wayne Medical Center in Waynesboro, Tennessee. Formerly of Memphis, he was born August 22, 1915 in Obion, Tennessee but grew up in Marvell, Arkansas.

Mr. Ruble graduated from Memphis State University and was a retired chemical supervisor. In 1948 he married Tennie Steele, daughter of the late Marvin and Fannie Steele of Clifton, Tennessee. They were married for 60 years before she preceded him in death in 2008. Russell was a 32nd degree Mason, a member of the Church of Christ, and he always was an outgoing and very pleasant person.

He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during World War II in the 340th Engineer Construction Battalion. Early in the war, the 340th participated in building the Alaskan-Canadian Highway, and Russell was very proud that he had helped to build the road to Alaska. Later, the 340th served at New Guinea, Morotai, and Luzon in the Philippine Islands.
