Keith E. Maynes, age 79, passed away Thursday, January 21, 2016, with his family by his side. Keith was born June 4, 1936, to Frank and Florence (Hackney) Maynes in Oberlin, Kansas. Keith was 12th of 14 children. When Keith was a small boy, his family relocated from Kansas to Mancos, Colorado, due to the dust bowl. After living in Mancos for a short time the family then moved to the Appleton area in Grand Junction, Colorado. Keith attended schools in the Appleton area and married Peggy J. Jones in 1957. In 1975 Keith had the opportunity to purchase tire recapping equipment from Ray Moore in Montrose, Colorado. He opened up his own tire shop, Maynes Tire and ran it until he retired this last year when he handed the responsibility over to his son, Mark Maynes.

From the time he opened his own business until his retirement, Keith tirelessly served his customers and found great joy in his interactions with them. Over time many of his customers became his greatest friends. Some of his fond memories involved sharing a cold diet pop with friends while they chatted by the fire.

Keith was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and taught countless kids in his Primary class at church and always had a candy in his pocket to share. Keith is survived by his wife, Peggy, his children Micki (Michael) Torres of Kearney, Missouri, Donna (Sherman) Hebein of Montrose, Colorado, and Mark (Janel) Maynes of Montrose. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Audrey (Derek) Petersen of Gilbert, Arizona, Kelli (Jarom) Huff of Fort Collins, Colorado, Sean (Nicol) Hebein of Rancho Santa Margarita, California, Zach Hebein of South Jordan, Utah, Ryan Torres of Kansas City, Missouri, Joshua (Brittany) Maynes of Palisade, Colorado, Keith Torres of Phoenix, Arizona, and Jeremy (Melissa) Maynes of Palisade, Colorado. Also surviving grandchildren Matthew (Jonalyn) Torres of Henderson, Nevada, and Melaine (Matthew) Sublette of Wenatchee, Washington. Great-grandkids included: Ryanna, Owen, Eli, Caleb & Samuel Petersen and Anika and Dallin "Bo" Huff, Roxy and Alexandria Hebein and Hasin and Bryson Maynes. He is also survived by his siblings: Darlene (Ray) DeRose, Bonnie (LeRoy) Foust and Rex (Sharon) Maynes.

Keith was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Frank Maynes, Nora Maynes, Agnes Maynes, Laurence “Doc” Maynes, Glen Maynes, Hattie Pistoresti, Dewey Maynes, Sammie Maynes and Shirley Iles.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions be made to Hope West Hospice, in memory of Keith, 725 S. 4th S 4th Street, Montrose, Co. 81401. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, January 25, 2016 at 10:00 am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1521 Hillcrest Drive, Montrose.
