Mrs. Horton was born July 21, 1929, to Mildred and Clyde Lovelace. She walked to Old Lovelace School house on Mudd Road while in first grade. Her family moved to Borger, Texas, for her dad to work in the oil fields. They later moved back to Lauderdale County, Alabama, where she attended Central High School. A member of Glendale Church of Christ, she worked as custodian there and had a Wednesday night class of two and three-year-olds. She attended nursing school at Calhoun Community College in Decatur. After earning her nurses license, she worked at ECM Hospital for 28 years. Her interests included camping, fishing, cooking, canning and making jelly and preserves for family and friends. Each year at Mars Hill Pumpkin Day she made ten coconut cakes and also enjoyed going to Diana Singing twice a year. She loved going to church and loved her church family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Mildred Lovelace, and her husband, Percy Horton.
She is survived by sons, Steve M. Austin (Judy) and Ricky Smith (Kathy); four grandchildren; brother, Jack Lovelace (Linda); one niece; and one nephew; five great-grandchildren; stepchildren, Faye Chastain (Wayne), Barbara Strange and James Horton (Rose); five stepgrandchildren; ten stepgreat-grandchildren; and friends, Sue Winn (Nick) and Joel and Sara Caudle families.
