Kimberly Ruth "Kim" Batista, a retired State of Nevada probation officer and long time resident of Las Vegas, passed away 2 Jan 2016 following an extended illness. Kim was 56 years, 11 months, 4 days old when she went to her eternal rest. A memorial service was held in early spring 2016 with burial at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, Colma, San Mateo county, California. (South of San Francisco CA)

Kim was born 29 Jan 1959 at 3:33am at Mills Hospital in nearby San Francisco CA. The firstborn child of her loving parents, Gerald "Jerry" Batista and Sylvia Ruth (Graham) Batista. Kim's family initially lived at 1226 Dore Ave, San Mateo CA 94401-1214. (South of San Francisco, in San Mateo county).

Kim's father, Jerry, had moved to San Mateo with his parents and siblings from Colorado when Jerry was about 5 years old. Jerry and his siblings graduated from the local schools and his parents ran Batista Landscape Service from 2 S Norfolk St, San Mateo CA 94401-2020. Jerry grew up to operate Batista Landscape Service along with his parents, Nino and Irene Batista. Jerry's siblings also worked at the family business. Nino was the family immigrant from Italy.

Around 1965, Jerry & Sylvia moved their growing family of three daughters to the newly created & nearby, Foster City, California. This marina based city was created in the 1960's from engineered soil and fill in the marshes of San Francisco Bay. It features canals and marinas, much like Naples FL and Venice, Italy. The new family home at 270 Avocet Ct, Foster City CA 94404-1424 was also in San Mateo county and a close commute to the family business in San Mateo. The new house was perfect for their growing family, which soon swelled to five children, with the addition of another daughter, Karen Ann Batista, and a son, Gerald "Mike" Jr.

Things changed dramatically following the sudden death of the children's father, Jerry Batista, in Milpitas CA in 1972. Now widowed, Sylvia faced the daunting challenge of raising her five children alone. Sylvia was a nurse in California, but before 1976, Sylvia had moved her young family to Las Vegas, Clark county, Nevada. Sylvia continued in the nursing profession for about 50 years. Her children completed school in Las Vegas and the family remained in Nevada, while still retaining close ties to family in San Mateo CA, and also as loyal fans of their hometown San Francisco 49ers.

Kim worked at Valley Hospital as a Physical Therapist in the early 1980's. She earned a degree in Criminal Justice (?!?) from UNLV, and later applied for a position at the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) around 1985. Kim eventually became an Adult Probation Officer for the State of Nevada in the Las Vegas area.

Kim shared two homes with her long time friend, Wendy Lou (DIETRICH) ADAMS, from Henderson NV and co-worker from Valley Hospital. Together, Kim & Wendy shared their love of pets, football, and entertaining their many friends. Wendy passed away 22 July 2007, and Kim continued caring for their animals.

Hepatitis C is a common disease that frequently goes undetected. It is estimated that 1 in 30 baby boomers have Hep C, but many go for years without even being aware that they have it. Hep C unfortunately made it's presence well known to Kim. It led to numerous complications and ultimately led to an early medical retirement from her position as a Nevada Adult Probation Officer. Kim continued to live in Wendy's home and cared for their animals, however she wasn't able to realize her dream of opening an animal care facility.

Kim eventually succumbed to a combination of medical problems, including cancer of the throat. Her father, Jerry, having died in 1972, was buried at Colma, the great necropolis of cemeteries that resulted from the 1900 ban on new cemeteries in San Francisco, and the 1912 regulation that forced the relocation of all but four San Francisco cemeteries.

Colma is in San Mateo county, California, near San Mateo and Foster City where Kim's parents lived from before 1959 until after 1972. Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery is part of the largest & oldest cemetery in Colma, with over 350,000 burials. As the recipient of many "transfers" from the 1912 cemetery relocations, it is also home to many famous former San Francisco residents and celebrities.

Kim's mother, Sylvia Ruth (GRAHAM) BATISTA, passed away in 2009 in Las Vegas, NV and was buried by her beloved husband, Jerry, at Colma CA. As their oldest daughter, Kim had lived for 40+ years in Las Vegas and died there, however, Kim is buried at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in Colma CA together with her parents. Kim's youngest sister, Karen Ann (BATISTA) BARLETT, passed away in 2012 in Pennsylvania and is buried at _____ ?. (Search for Nino & Irene Batista's memorials in CA ?!)

Kim was a good person with a good heart. She faced many challenges in her life, and yet she overcame most with a smile and a sunny disposition. She will be missed.
