Richard R. Rathbun, 90, of Salinas, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 30, 2017, at his home in Salinas.
Private family funeral services will be held at Struve and LaPorte Funeral Chapel, Salinas. Struve and Laporte Funeral Chapel, Salinas, is in charge of the arrangements. Urn was placed in the Mausoleum of Garden of Memories Cemetery, Salinas, California.
Richard Raymond Rathbun was born September 16, 1926, in Ord, Nebraska, the son of Melvin J. and Elsie V. (Haught) Rathbun. He was raised in Ord, Nebraska and graduated from Ord High School in 1944. He entered the Army and was stationed at Fort Ord, Monterey, California. After leaving military service, he returned to Nebraska to farm with his brother. He married Roberta A. Stoddard on June 5, 1948, and they moved to Salinas, California. He was employed with Cornell Tractor, which later became Pringle Tractor Company and became the president and general manager from 1979 to 2003, until his retirement. Roberta preceded him in death on October 18, 2001. He was active in the Salinas community serving as a member of the Elks Lodge and Rotary. He was an avid golfer and longtime member of Salinas Golf and Country Club.
He is survived by one daughter, Cynthia Lumsden; one son, Hugh Rathbun; one granddaughter, Julie Lumsden; three grandsons, Chris (Kelly) Rathbun, Michael Rathbun and Bruce (Rebecca) Lumsden.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one sister, Genevieve Pierson and one brother, Tracy Rathbun.
