Family records show that he was nice looking, short only 5'6" and had dark hair. His wife Sara was about 5'7" and had dark hair. Richard and Sara would take trips in the wagons going across the mountains from Jackson county, Tennessee to East Tennessee. Rose was Richards daughter. When Sara was 14 years old she was walking down the road to the store and Richard came riding by on a horse. They began talking and he asked if she would marry him she said yes got on the horse and never returned home.
