Everett Earl (Mac) McDowell
Everett Earl (Mac) McDowell, 63, of Ohio 97 Blooming Grove died at his home Sunday morning, after he became ill earlier.
Galion Ambulance service was summoned to the McDowell residence at 10:30 a.m. Sunday after Mr. McDowell collapsed in a chair. Several attenpts were made by ambulance personnel with assistance of a grader, snowplow and a wrecker, but they were unable to get into Blooming Grove. Ambulance manger John Heitzman said they coulf only get within two miles of the home due to heavy drifting.
A short time later, a helicopter from Heck Flying service in Bucyrus carried an emergency medical technician into Blooming Grove. The Technician was unable to provide any assistance and he was returned to Bucyrus.
A snowmobile rescue unit was employed to get into the isolated community and Mr. McDowell's body was removed to a waiting ambulance. He was pronounced dead on arrival at Gallion Community Hospital at 2 p.m. A ruling is pending from the Crawford County coroner's office.
Mr. McDowell had just last week retired from North Elementary School where he worked as a custodian.
Everett Earl McDowell was born near Mooreland, Oklahoma on April 27, 1913, the son of Earl Eugene and Tresa Agnes Vogt McDowell.
His wife, the Flossie V. Thoman, whom he married December 7, 1947, died August 15, 1972.
Funeral services, officiated by Rev. Donald J. Voelm, will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Volk-Richardson Funeral Home. Calling hours there will be Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.

A medical technician was flown into Blooming Grove in an effort to get a man stricken with a heart attack. The Helicopter, owned by Heck Flying Service, Bucyrus, was to land at the hospital, but nothing could be done to save the man's life. The dead man is Everett Earl McDowell, 63. Everett Earl McDowell was in the U. S. Army during World War II. His Civil Occupation at that time was listed as Automobile Serviceman.
