John Addington was born in Newberry District, S.C., moved with his family to and married in Buncombe County, N.C. He later moved to Haywood County (now a part of Macon County, N.C.). John is found in the 1830 census of Macon County, N.C, the 1840 and 1850 census of Gilmer County, Ga. and the 1860 census of Jackson County, Ga. While in Gilmer County, Georgia he lived on a hill on the east side of the Cartecay River in the Cartecay Community.(This John Addington is not the John T. Addington who lived south and east of Ellijay, Gilmer County, Georgia and later moved with his wife to Bartow County, Georgia and is buried with his wife in Adairsville). John T. was younger than this Cartecay John and people are putting the picture of John T. on the older John who has no known photo). This John left a will in Jackson County, Georgia which lists his children.-Danny Mashburn
