Dora was born at Tjeweng, near Djombang, Dutch East Indies, to Karel and Melanie van Gelder, Dutch citizens. A guiding light of the Theosophical Society in America, an intuitive healer and co-founder of Therapeutic Touch International Association, author, editor, publisher, public speaker, educator, organizer and administrator. Dora began the discipline of meditating at age 5, and continued all her life. If ever there was a reincarnated 'old soul,' Dora was one. At age eleven, she joined Charles Leadbeater in Australia, "where she assisted him in providing healing and reassurance to families who had lost loved ones in World War I. Leadbeater gave her the nickname “Dora” that she used the rest of her life." [Theosophical Wiki] On 16May1927, Dora married Fritz Kunz, a member of a Theosophical family, who would become an international leader in his own right. After a long career, Fritz died in 1970, but Dora went on to become president of the North American section, and editor-in-chief of their publications. She co-founded Therpeutic Touch and eventually the Therapeutic Touch International Association at the Pumpkin Hollow Retreat facility, which she also founded, with Dolores Krieger, PhD, RN, establishing standards for treatment, training, instruction and certification. She established the practice of recording and archiving audio and video of lecture presentation and instruction.
