Bill graduated from Mt. Jewett High School and continued his education at Penn State University, receiving both a bachelor of science degree and a master of education degree. From 1951 to 1954, Bill served his country in the U.S. Air Force as a private first class. He received the National Defense Service Medal, the UN Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal, a Good Conduct Medal and the Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation.
Bill spent 34 years in public education, first as a teacher of Industrial Arts at Cambridge Springs PENNCREST School District and then as Cambridge Springs High School principal. He was inducted into the Cambridge Springs Hall of Fame in 2008.
Surviving Bill, in addition to his wife, Julie, are three children, Jennifer Adair Galdon and her husband, Christopher, William H. Adair and his wife, Barbara, and Jill Adair Stiteler and her husband, Jason. His grandchildren surviving are Tyler and Trevor Adair, Mackenzie and Kenley Galdon, and Elliot and Isaac Stiteler. He is also survived by his siblings, Phyllis Adair Bills, Winifred Adair Edinger and Robin Adair; as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his siblings, Helen Adair Kennedy, Donald Adair, Dorothy Adair Larson and James Richard Adair.
Friends may call at Van Matre Family Funeral Home in Cambridge Springs on Monday from 3 to 6 p.m. At 6 p.m. a funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home, with the Very Rev. Dr. John P. Downey of St. Paul Episcopal Cathedral in Erie officiating. Burial will be in Bridgeview Cemetery, Mt. Jewett, on Tuesday.
