The son of Joseph Alexander and Margaret (Hemphill) Thomas, C.T. was a farmer and a founding member of Clover Presbyterian in 1881. His father died in the War when C.T. was five years old. His first marriage to Elizabeth Enloe was blessed with three sons; one (Andrew) died of typhoid fever as a young man, one (Joe) became a doctor and one (Clarence) a pharmacist. His second marriage to Martha Ford was blessed with two sons and three daughters, all of whom (Margaret, Jeanette, Paul, Pauline, and T.M.) married and had children of their own.
