Funeral services for Charlie Stevens "Sonny" Johnson were held from the Pine Grove Church of Christ on January 12, 1956, with burial in the Pine Grove Cemetery with Hawkins Funeral Home of Fulton in charge.

Mr. Johnson, known throughout the county as "Sonny", died at his home in the Johnson's Schoolhouse Community on January 11, 1956, after eating a hearty dinner.

He had been confined to his bed for the past five years but was feeling as well as normal at dinnertime. It was thought that he suffered a heart attack. He was 92 years old.

His wife died in October 1955.

He was the last son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Steven Johnson who settled at what later became the Johnson's Schoolhouse, after coming to Itawamba County in an ox wagon from North Carolina.

Only one daughter is still living of this pioneer family's nine children. She is Mrs. Annie Williams of Little Rock, Arkansas.

Others who died in addition to Mr. Johnson are Bill, Tom, John, Poly (who died in May 1955 at the age of 97), Mattie, Donnie, and Earline.

Mr. Johnson had been a member of the Pine Grove Church of Christ since he was a young boy. He was a retired farmer, having lived all of his life in the Johnson's Schoolhouse area, where he was one of the most highly respected citizens of the community.

He leaves five sons and five daughters: Oscar Johnson of Memphis, Tenn., Dove Johnson of Tulot, Ark., Onnie Johnson of Smithville, and Poly and Kirk Johnson, both of Fulton; Mrs. Dora Tucker, Mrs. Appie Wheeler, Miss Delphia Johnson, Mrs. Jesmer Warren, and Miss Velma Johnson, all of Fulton.
