CONCORD Mrs. Ruth Elizabeth Allison Abernathy, 94, passed away Thursday, Dec. 17, 2015, at Tucker Hospice House in Kannapolis. A funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 23, at Concord Bible Church. Pastor Tom Sandquist will officiate. The body will lie in-state at the church from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Lady's Funeral Home. Mrs. Abernathy was born Aug. 2, 1921 in Granite Quarry,N.C. She was a daughter of the late Carl Reginald Alllison and Mary Elizabeth Burrage Alllison. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Concord Bible Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Abernathy; brother, Robert Abernathy; and three sisters, Mary Alexander, Barbara Belk, and Margaret Dover. Mrs. Abernathy is survived by six daughters, Jayne Allen and husband Fred, Ann Walters and husband Robert, Mary Griffin, all of Concord, Donna Barbee and husband Jimmy of Sacramento, Calif., Kathy Blackmore and husband George of Charlotte, and Carolyn Daniel of High Point; son, Charles Abernathy and wife Linda of Concord; sixteen grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Concord Bible Church Building Fund, 711 Williamsburg Court, Concord, NC 28025 or to Gideons International Concord Camp, P.O. Box 902, Concord, NC 28026.
