Funeral services for David LeRoy Burrows, 60, of Longview, will be held noon Saturday, August 19, 2006, at Mobberly Baptist Church at 625 East Loop 281, with the Reverend Scott Schulik and Dr. Gregg Zackary officiating. Burial will follow in Rosewood Park, where he will receive full firefighter honors from the Longview Fire Department for his many years of faithful service. The retired fire marshal passed away Wednesday afternoon, August 16, 2006, at a Gilmer hospital. Mr. Burrows was born August 12, 1946, in Oklahoma City, Okla., to Lewis and Louise Vassar. He loved the fire department and being a firefighter. He was a highly decorated 30-plus year veteran with the Longview Fire Department and was also a member of Mobberly Baptist Church of Longview. Mr. Burrows served his country with the U.S. Air Force. A loving father and grandfather, Mr. Burrows was preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Phyllis Burrows, who passed away in 2000. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and C.J. Nevill of Diana; son, David Burrows of Gladewater; grandson, Peyton Nevill of Diana; sisters, Karen Powell of White Oak, and Kathy Hedge of Gladewater; longtime family friend, Julie Springs of Longview; and his sweet puppy, "Daisy." The Longview Fire Department Honor Guard will serve as pallbearers. The family requests that memorials be made in honor of Mr. Burrows to American Diabetes Association, 4425 W. Airport Freeway, Suite 130, Irving, TX 75062; or American Heart Association, 1125 Judson Rd., Suite 150, Longview, TX 75601. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday evening, August 18, 2006, in the chapel of Rader Funeral Home of Longview.
